ashen light

A dim glow that visual observers occasionally claim to see on the dark part of Venus when the planet is at crescent phase. In the absence of photographic evidence, the reality of the phenomenon is questioned by some, though it has been reported by many different observers. The origin is unknown but, if it is a real physical effect in the atmosphere of Venus, it may be similar to the airglow in the Earth's atmosphere.
